Just prior to my filming this, a Cooper's hawk paid a visit to this very same porch rail. After the hawk flew away, the blackbird flew in to grab a bit to eat, but remained on alert with his tail in the air. In the background, you can hear two crows who are bitching out the hawk who was sitting in a tree quite some distance away.
This particular blackbird has proven to be quite brave. He will fly in and sit on the rail while I'm pouring out the seed. If I'm inside, and the seed supply needs to be replenished, he'll chirp like he's doing in the video (but with his tail down) to let me know I'm slacking off re. my waitressing duties.
