Found missing info from Tesla Radiant Energy Patent

I believe that Tesla was charging his insulated plate in patent 685957 using an electrophorus (negative static charge) static prior to connecting to the rest of the circuit.
Or possibly using a large bank of batteries. The elevated plate beging negatively charged and possibly the ground plate being positively charge. This provides the condenser and the plates to be in series with the environment
