This is my submission for Neumann Films' 'Summer In' Film Competition.

I shot this video over the course of a month (July 22nd - Aug 25th) in numerous locations all over my home state of Kentucky. I did a lot of driving and discovering new places I had never seen before. Thanks Neumann Films for that! Also, if you weren't apart of this competition and just stumbled onto this video; you can purchase the song you hear in the video, as well as many other great tracks from http://neumannfilms.net/
I decided to give my recently purchased Canon 5DMK3 the greatest test ever by shooting everything in RAW with the Magic Lantern hack. This was a great challenge for me in both figuring out Magic Lantern on the fly, and processing all the RAW files/editing in post. While I don't recommend it for everyone and every situation, the Magic Lantern RAW hack produces some amazing images (even though internet compression doesn't make it look as nice).
Canon 5D Mark III (with Magic Lantern July 22nd Nightly Build Raw Hack)
Canon EF 16-35mm f/2.8L II USM
Tamron SP 70-200MM F/2.8 DI VC USD
Cinevate Atlas 30 Slider
Various Bogen, Manfrotto, MeFOTO, and off brand tripods
Transcend 128GB 1000x UDMA7 CF Card (need the speed for the RAW)
Post Production Workflow (for those who want to try):
Drag RAW files off CF card and into folder on computer
Run free utility RAWanizer on RAW files
Import newly created dng files into After Effects
Adjust color in After Effects built in Camera Raw
Drop all footage into sequences at 23.976 frame rate
Send all sequences to the Render Queue
Export all as 1920x1080 DNxHD .mov set at 23.976 frame rate
Import newly created .mov files into Premiere
Edit the footage (if your graphics card is fast enough or you have CUDA cores you can play the footage without rendering constantly)
Open After Effects
Dynamic Link Import Premiere sequence into After Effects
Drop Premiere comp into After Effects comp
Create opening and closing graphics
Clone out birds and what not in RAW timelapses
Try to get that stupid HyperLapse to stabilize properly again (and it won't)
Export final video as DNxHD .mov (which Vimeo & Youtube hate)
Wait forever to upload
I hope that helps everybody who is considering trying to shoot RAW (since I had never touched it before this competition and it took a ton of trail and error to figure everything out that you read above). Enjoy!
Here's your prize for making it all the way down here. I have a website, so check it out if you feel like it: www.nickcarlisle.com
