Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) and Visualization of a live snail (Marisa). A time-based exploration of three-dimensional pixels (voxels). This animation promotes the artifacts inherent in the low resolution magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) source material. Three-dimensional moiré patterns emerge from the stacked voxels as they shift their orientation, slice dimensions, and magnification. Time permits a decoding of the apparent abstractions into recognized biological structures -- a snail in this animation. - - - - - - - - - - - Part of the Play Gallery, a collaborative in experimental time-based arts by the University of Michigan School of Art & Design and Michigan Public Media.
