First Grade- Chemistry in a Baggie

First graders are learning about chemical reactions. They mixed rock salt, baking soda and red cabbage juice to produce heat, cold, gas, and color changes. One baggie, on its way home, blew up in the 1st grade cubby room and oozed down the cubbies! Stinky red cabbage juice!
