Maria Montessori developed her educational philosophy from her early career as a doctor in Rome around 1900, treating toddlers, and it evolved through the influences of India, where she was held as a political prisoner during World War II. Institutes around the world continue training teachers in her methods and materials. Interviews from Perugia and Bergamo, Italy, highlight the charismatic, aging scholars that worked with her and her son Mario and continue to train teachers in a century-old approach to helping a child develop to his or her potential.
